According to the International Coaching Federation, “coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.”
A trained health and wellness coach is proficient in understanding human behavior change as it pertains to the domains of health and wellness. They work with you to assess your individual situation and lifestyle, to help you reach your goals through modification of behaviors and mindset. The coach will help you to identify health and wellness obstacles that may be preventing you from making the changes in your life that you want to make. Together, you will begin to uncover and understand the root of your problem so that you can focus on moving forward in your life.
A coach will help you to develop goals and keep you on track with your commitments by offering empowering support and tools that help your life run smoother. It is not uncommon for a coach to give you homework assignments that are designed to engage you with your goal, deepen your awareness, and help develop skills to support your area of interest. Your coaching session will be a time to engage deeply in yourself so you can learn what is most important and essential in your life’s journey.
It is important to know that coaching should not be substituted for medical care, nutritional advice, or psychotherapy. In fact, it is important to know that a properly trained coach will not give advice like the professionals mentioned above. Please contact your coach if you have any questions about what kind of care is right for you.
People from all stages of life, career backgrounds, states of health and wellness, and life transitions come to coaching to bridge the gap from the life they have, into the life they desire. Coaching’s personalized approach and evidence based methods assist individuals to transform their behaviors, mindset, and lifestyle in a sustainable way. The following list includes some of the common reasons why individuals seek out the support of a coach.

After working in the health and wellness field for the past ten years as a massage therapist, I recognized the value and success of approaching health and wellness holistically. I wanted to increase my ability to help clients as they went through various life challenges with holistic skills that embraced their whole being, so I became a health and wellness coach. My coaching process utilizes a combination of evidenced based methods including positive psychology, powerful inquiry, and mindfulness to help my clients discover what is most important to them. Through self-discovery and clarity of values clients uncover their true desires and needs. In addition, I help my clients to create strategies to attain their desires and needs, to understand their derailing behaviors, to manage their progress, to support their individual process, and to encourage them to find and take realistic steps towards their goals. Each session is tailored individually towards each person in a holistic manner. My approach is compassionate, warm, empowering, and down to earth.
I received my master’s degree for Health and Wellness Coaching at Maryland University of Integrative Health with a focus on nutrition, mindfulness meditation, exercise, and wellness strategies.
